Wow, last week started off like any other....and then WHAM! Emilee had a slight sore throat Sunday night, Monday morning. No biggy she said, didn't want to stay home so she took some Zicam and we thought we'd averted anything major! Fakeout! She came home feeling rotten Monday afternoon. And by Tuesday morning, she was running a fever and feeling it bad in her throat & ears. The child that will not stay home ever, wanted to stay home and go to the doctor. Fast forward three hours. She is sent home with tonsillitis and two ear infections...and plain jane penicillin! I was not happy! (because of Emilee's frequent bladder/UTI & kidney infections, antibiotics need to be stepped up a bit usually) In addition, they only wanted to give her a ONE DAY note for school! Uh, hello, did you not just say tonsillitis and TWO ear infections? Dumbass!
By the next morning she had pus pockets on her tonsils and in her throat - which is more often than not, strep throat. I call back and get the familiar doc, but since she's been on antibiotics 24hrs, they don't want to culture her throat. Doc tells me to relax, keep her on the penicillin, claritin, tylenol, etc. and come in Friday if she's not improving. FF to Friday morn. She's worse, now with a crappy ol' cough and fever that breaks, but quickly returns. We see the good doc, who chuckled that the rookie had only given Em one day off school - Emi had 102.6 fever when we got there Friday (after 3+ days of meds!). She changes up the meds, adds a cough syrup so at least she can get some rest and we start the weekend. I still wasn't sure last night that she could make it back to school today. But lo and behold, she got up this morning and was determined not to sit in this house (with me!) one more day! Took her meds, ate an english muffin with some pnut butter and said she was ready to go.
Now she's got a crapload of class & homework to catch up on in addition to this week's assignments. She had her real doc note for all of last week and a note from me to take to classes. She said her teachers were all concerned, glad to see her back and willing to work with her to get caught up. What a relief for her, and me.
She's finished today's homework and some makeup work and is now in bed with eardrops. I am glad this is almost over. She doesn't get sick much anymore and is a tough cookie, but she was down for the count last week and I was worried.
Dang this is a long post and it is officially over ~:~:~:sprays post with Lysol:~:~:~:
